How important is it for us to pray for our government and our heads of state? Paul writes in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "... I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." On 12 August, I had the opportunity to join Thai Christian pastors at a multi-faith ceremony to pray for the Thai Queen Mother.
Approximately 100 Buddhist monks chanted in Pali Sanskrit first and then the 10 Christians were up, front and centre! I read three Bible passages (in Thai), followed by a prayer of blessing for the Queen mother and a poem. This was followed by a couple of hymns and a prayer for the nation. After we finished, the Muslims spent some time in Arabic prayer. It was good to be there to represent the Christian community in Nakhon Si Thammarat. But the best thing? Christianity is often dismissed by Thais as being a foreign religion, but the Christians were the only group speaking Thai that morning!! Please pray that our witness will be remembered by many.
